After a night of camping at Doheny State Beach we drove the Buses about 100m to the parking lot for the Buses By The Beach SoCal day in Doheny. Here we parked on the beachside parking to enjoy the air-cooled VWs as well as a handful of Porsches together with our friends. A regular Friday here in California… Together with Doug and Jon we booked a spot at the Doheny State Beach Campground for a relaxed day of fishing, surfing, and enjoying an amazing meal cooked by Jon. We’ve been in San Francisco for the past few days, soaking up the city and ticking off all the classics: Alcatraz tour, walked the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39 visit incl the sea lions, had lunch at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, Chinatown’s busy streets, drive down Lombard’s famous curves, enjoyed Italian dinner in North Beach, and had several rides on the historic Cable Cars. Somewhere along the way we even discovered a classic VW shop — Church of the Air‑Cooled… its small VW world. All in all a wonderful couple of days shared with the Saito family. This Saturday we stopped by the Charger Steve’s Wild Rides Car Show in Pacific Beach. Bigger than expected and as colourful as ever here in California.
